Everyday Representation

Punctuation

As humans, especially as students, we are reading and writing all day. Whether it be texts, emails, or books, punctuation is an essential aspect when writing and reading. Proper punctuation is crucial to any good work. Punctuation represents tone, mood, and helps convey what the writer is saying. A comma is just a little dot with a tail on the page, but when used properly it represents a pause or sections of one's writing. An exclamation mark! It is just a line ending with a dot, But it represents excitement, volume, importance, or a strong command. The reason why these things have value is because we all agree that they do. Punctuation is nothing without the value we assign it and agree with. A period is just a dot on the page but that dot represents the end.

Makeup

Makeup is used in numerous ways and for many different reasons. Traditionally, makeup represents beauty and perfection, but not all the time. Makeup can be used to cover imperfections, represent emotions or feelings, and can even be an accessory to one aesthetic. Makeup is also heavily used in theater and film to portray specific feelings in characters and can even alter one's appearance completely. How makeup is applied and combined can represent a lot about a person. Dark makeup, and heavy black eyeliner paired with dark red or black lipstick can represent a person's aesthetic as goth, emo, or dark acidemia. Bright colors, glitter, heavy pinks, or pastels can represent a hyper-feminine look. Someone who wears no makeup at all could represent, perhaps a more tomboy or organic aesthetic. Makeup can help amplify what is already there. There are an infinite amount of ways to use makeup and what you are trying to represent.

Traffic Lights

We all know that colors have traditional meanings like red means abrupt or love, and blue can mean sad or depressed. This goes for all the main colors. Every color has a representation, but what happens when you eliminate words completely and replace them with colors? The traffic light is a very overlooked piece of equipment in our daily lives. Traffic lights use the power of color to convey a message and story. Traffic lights are a vital part of our roads and keep cars flowing nicely. Traffic lights don't use any words at all but strictly rely on color to do the talking for them; red, yellow, and green.

Red as we all know means STOP, due to the color having the longest wavelength, meaning the color can travel larger distances so you can see it through rain, fog, and mist. Yellow represents joyfulness and happiness like sunshine, but in the traffic light, it represents caution due to it being the brightest color to the human eye. Finally green represents go, for the same reasons as red and yellow, it is the third brightest color to the human eye. Every color has a different representation, but for the traffic light, they are most important.
